FRANTIC: THE FUTURE SOUND OF HARD DANCE (WARNER) Mixed by Ed Real and Phil Reynolds

Hard house has been making a comeback in dance music of late. Championing the sound of hard dance is UK club, Frantic. It is all about energy.

Ed Real opens his mix with the hard bouncing basslines of ‘Wake Up call!’. The ever engaging and manic sounds of Mauro Picotto’s ‘Like This Like That’ has been give the Hi-Gate rub over. There is really no turning back from here, there are no breakdowns in this rollercoaster ride. Hard basslines, manic organs, pitching voices. The sound of skool rave never really died. Ace Of Space’s ‘9 is A Classic’ shouts classic rave tune! Another Classic from almost a decade ago gets a 2001 treatment, Praga Khan’s ‘Injected With A Poison’. ‘Nuff said.

Phil Reynold delivers a trance influenced mix on disc two. Signum offers ‘First Strike’ and the, unfortunately over played, ‘1998’ by Binary Finary. It certainly does not fall short of being uplifting. Also, in the mix is Phil’s own co-production with Nick Sentience – (instru)MENTAL. Just mental, Hani’s ‘Baby Wants To Ride’ doesn’t get any further from that. The mix gets on at about 145+ bpm. As was with the first mix, the mixing is smooth. A worthy introduction to the hard dance.
