[Justin Robertson: Imprint]

People forget just how sexy JR is, and we’re not talking Dallas. From the birth of Balearic to the rocking hedonistic nineties, Justin Robertson has always been a player.

And believe it or not, this is only the fourth time one of Justin’s DJ sets has been committed to CD. So, when is a mix album not a mix album?…When it’s Distinctive Breaks new series, IMPRINT. What they offer the DJ/Producer is an opportunity to get into the studio and create individual soundscapes, using both their skills as a DJ and producer with as much artistic freedom as required. In turn what they hope to offer the listener is a real insight into how the DJ thinks musically – effectively it’s one step beyond a DJ mix album.

With the flagship release of the IMPRINT series, Justin has chosen from the diversity of styles he plays, to serve up twenty four tracks that capture the energetic and dynamic urban soul sound that Justin plays at clubs such as Bugged Out, Headstart and Remedy where he holds monthly residencies.

If you’d ever been confused about Justin’s current sound, then step out of your time warp and experience this. It’s an urban funk block party vibe, with visceral grooves and panoramic melodies – definitely one you can wig out to.

So alongside your live mix you get extra effects and loops spun in to make up that dynamic twist, without interfering with the flow or papering over the cracks. The studio techniques are subtle and were used to enhance the funk. Musically this mix is trans continental from East Coast to West Coast and all over in between - from deep melodious house to joyful life affirming electric grooves.

Organic, urban, electronic - serious underground music with a good time twist.

Justin Robertson’s IMPRINT will be released on April 30th on Distinctive Breaks. JR’s artist album ‘Revtone’ will be released in September on Nuphonic.
